In this 30 minute interview, they will discuss the journey that Marist Schools Australia has taken to create a child safe culture, as well as the challenges and triumphs that they have faced. We'll break down the practical and innovative approach that they have taken over the past few years to implement a child safeguarding program across all parts of the organisation.

Deborah de Fina

Principal Consultant - Child Safeguarding, CompliSpace

Deborah recently completed five years working with the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse where she assisted the Royal Commission to establish the Private Session process and subsequently managed its legal aspects. Prior to working with the Royal Commission, Deborah had her own successful consulting practice where she specialised in the statutory child protection system, legal issues facing children and vulnerable people, and legal aid. She also spent more than nine years at Legal Aid NSW, as a child protection solicitor, Senior Solicitor and then Solicitor in Charge, Child Protection. Deborah holds a Juris Doctorate from the Columbia University School of Law, a Master of International Affairs from the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs and a Diploma in Law from Sydney University.

Elizabeth Gallahager

Child Safeguarding & Compliance Officer, Marist Schools Australia

Elizabeth has been with Marist Schools Australia since 2019 as the Child Safeguarding & Compliance Officer. Prior to this time, she held senior legal and commercial management roles in the financial services and insurance sector and worked for many years with one of Australia’s most respected law firms. Elizabeth brings her wide range of skills, experience and knowledge to Marist Schools Australia to help provide a safe environment in which students can flourish and to navigate through the increasing complexities of child safety and school governance.

Jessica Gunning

Marketing Operations Manager
