SA Child Protection WWCC Update - June 2019

This briefing paper covers reforms to the child protection system in South Australia. As part of their reforms, the previous Child Protection Act 1993 (SA) was repealed and a new legislative framework was introduced, including the:

Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017 (SA) (Safety Act)
Child Safety (Prohibited Persons) Act 2016 (SA) (c).

The Prohibited Persons Act and the Prohibited Persons Regulations implemented a Working With Children Check (WWCC) scheme in July 2019, with the aim to prevent individuals who pose a substantial risk to the safety of children from working or volunteering with children.
