St Paul’s College Adelaide
St Paul’s College is a South Australian CompliSpace foundation client. The College’s implementation of Ideagen CompliSpace Education has vastly improved policy, training and incident management and this has become a catalyst for cultural change, policy and practice.
Challenge
St Paul’s College is a Catholic school with over 700 students from Reception to Year 12 and 80 staff. A a member of Edmund Rice Education Australia network, it provides high-quality education that is both inclusive and affordable. Students are encouraged to be their best through the College values of Faith, Relationships, Excellence and Diversity.
St Paul’s College engaged Ideagen CompliSpace to help bring consistency and transparency to the way it managed its policies, risk and compliance.
They were looking for an online solution that ensured all staff knew where their policies could be found and that the policies were regularly updated, ensuring ongoing compliance. In addition, they were looking for a system that would allow them to remove paper-based forms, save time logging incidents and submitting reports and a system for ensuring compliance tasks are completed when required.
Solution
Ideagen CompliSpace worked with St Paul’s College to Ideagen implement CompliSpace Education, which included:
- Policy Management System for policy content and management.
- The Learning Management System to manage and track compliance training, staff induction and professional development.
- Assurance, for hazard and risk management, task management, reporting and more.
Results
Policy Management System
Before implementing Policy Management, Neville Atkinson, Business Manager explained that policies were stored in numerous places at the school – from the website, to the hard copy handbook, to paper copies in files in the staff rooms or to staffs’ own hard drives. This created confusion among staff about where to find policies and uncertainty about which policies were the most updated versions.
Now, the school simply publishes a Policy Management link, which directs staff to the latest version of a policy quickly.

Neville shared that one of the most challenging parts of the Policy Management implementation was the preparation work staff did to find and review all their policies. This work was time consuming, but essential, for a smooth implementation.
However, as Neville quoted, “I really liked the ability and flexibility to customise the product and to tailor it to suit our own situation. Using the CompliSpace platform to roll out procedures to all staff, especially administrative staff, was also an added bonus. We are now also using the platform as a key gatherer for our strategic information.”
Learning Management System
Neville’s staff are using the Learning Management System to do policy and procedure training. Under the guidance of their relevant Leader of Learning, all staff complete an annual staged Professional Learning Plan and Performance review, which includes guidance for setting personal goals and engaging in meaningful professional development, classroom observation, feedback and reflection, and culminating in a annual review with a member of the College Senior Leadership Team.
Training was provided throughout the course of the year through the Ideagen CompliSpace Learning Management System, in Learning Team meetings, Teaching staff meetings, and Teacher training days, while staff were supported with individual professional learning offsite, enabling continuous improvement.
Staff have undertaken numerous online training sessions regarding Compliance with a particular focus on Child Protection, WHS, and Risk. This training included online modules set under the guidance of EREA and CESA, as well as whole-staff training sessions.
Assurance
Prior to the Assurance implementation the school relied on paper-based forms and the process was cumbersome with limited reporting and analysis capabilities.
The following processes and records are now fully managed within the Ideagen CompliSpace Assurance platform:
- Injury and Property Damage
- Reporting a Incident or Hazard
- Hazard Reporting
- Accident/Incident/Near Miss Reporting Register
- First Aid Register
Now, staff have access to Assurance on their mobiles and laptops, and “...it’s become second nature, which is fantastic.” Neville added that staff were quickly trained to adopt Assurance. “If a teacher is on the oval and a student gets injured, he or she can complete the form on the spot. We can act immediately on the incident because the process is quick and accurate. Relevant key staff, including the Principal if necessary, are notified immediately. Assurance saves so much time and improves accuracy as well.”
Reporting
Neville has found the reporting function of the systems in Ideagen CompliSpace Education to be very helpful. The reports provide the information he needs for staff, management, committee and Board reports.
